We are happy and grateful to find us entering this season; a season that will be like no other before it. Welcome to Langford Lanes Youth League’s 2020 Season! We are happy to see so many new bowlers; we set a goal to fill the house, and we have.
The focus this year will be Bowling Safe. We have a plan in place and we hope to build upon it. A plan that includes some limitations to some of the things we know and love about bowling. Things like High-5s need to be altered. Mask’s are recommended, but not mandatory. We can’t share equipment and there is no leaving your lane to meet with others.
This doesn’t really sound like the bowling I know; but I also know many people are not able to enjoy their passion during these times too. Our situation could be the same, or worse. So why do we choose to promote a youth athletic program during COVID-19?
Bowling is a social sport first; it brings people together to share and compete. It is also a way for many to find their pace and the space to participate in a fitness program in ways other sports often overlook. For me, nothing releases tension like a few strikes and that will probably never change.
Right now, many of us are unable to enjoy the activities we love; we chose to keep bowling from being one of them. Our League is a healthy activity for everyone, especially for our youth. Bowling can be a healthy way to distance yourself and them from less healthy choices. We chose to help others discover their own reasons why bowling is important to them; and what healthy benefits it can bring.
We are meeting and exceed the guidelines we must follow in order to participate and operate. We have a 60 participant limit and tracing procedures are in place. The League itself has written approval from VIHA to proceed, and we can’t argue with them, even if we wanted to.
Thank you for putting trust in us in this time of uncertainty. We know this if not going to be for everyone; we understand there are still challenges ahead. For many of us, bowling is for life and we mean to show you how you can take this sport almost anywhere!
Stay fit and play safe.
